Fundraiser, And One-Night-Only, Performance for ‘El Hijo Prodigo’ On June 9th

Kirby Lindsay

On Saturday, June 9th, at 8p, at West of Lenin El Hijo Prodigo returns to the stage for a special one-night-only fundraising performance.  The popular one-man show is a semi-autobiographical work written and performed by José Amador, and directed by Mark Fullerton.  This singular staging will raise money to fund a full-scale production of the piece in, hopefully, the near future.

El Hijo Prodigo tells the story of a man’s return to his native Puerto Rico after an absence of 22 years.  He is soon reunited with – and beguiled by – the history and culture of the island state he once called home.

This five-day headlong rush into his ancestral community culminates with the chance for him to face his life, home and family and see them for what they really are.  A journey through the island’s music, mores, legends, people and traditions, El Hijo Prodigo brings to life the joys and sorrows of a Commonwealth barely 1100 miles from our shores.

Tickets for this special performance can be purchased for $20 through Brown Paper Tickets, or at the door for $25.
