‘C’est Magnifique’ Bike Ride To Celebrate Bastille Day

Kirby Lindsay

The folk at Hub And Bespoke have organized an entirely social bike ride for this Saturday, July 14th, from Noon – 3p, and in celebration of Bastille Day, they’ve chosen to call it ‘C’est Magnifique!’ and include a picnic a la français.

The ride will start at Melrose Market, and continue – by bicycle – around town collecting items for a mid-afternoon pique-nique in the park.  Put on your best French-inspired outfit, and participate in the best dressed homme et la femme competition for a small prize.

Also, don’t forget a bag or basket for your bike in which to carry your picnic items.  Très Important!  Bring enough cash to purchase enough picnic goods for your lunch from local vendors.  Ride organizers suggest $20 per person will be plenty.

Any questions?  Read the Hub And Bespoke blog, or stop by the store in Fremont at 513 N 36th St.  R.S.V.P.s can be given on the Facebook event page.

Fremont Outdoor Cinema Returns With The Phantasm Fighting Four!

Kirby Lindsay

On Saturday, July 14th, the Fremont Outdoor Cinema returns in full splendor with its (nearly) annual showing of a crowd-pleasing favorite film – Ghostbusters!

This family-friendly movie will delight children, parents, chicks and dudes, senior relatives and even the fussiest straight-up adult!  Heck, it was good enough to get #28 on the American Film Institute’s list of film comedies.

Released in 1984, and directed by Ivan Reitman, this sci-fi comedy stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson, along with Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis and Annie Potts.  Written by Aykroyd and Ramis, the film follows three parapsychologists in New York City who, after being dismissed from academia, open a business busting ghosts – just as a supernatural event erupts and tries to take out the metropolis.

In addition to the movie, Fremont Outdoor Cinema organizers promise more treats – including Molly Moon Ice Cream for sale and a Zagat Survey: Nightlife booth giving out prizes for information on your favorite places.  Also, Warner Brothers will give a few lucky folks a chance to see the upcoming film The Campaign, starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galafanakis.

So, grab some blankets, a few friends (and/or relatives,) and camp out on the parking lot for a bit of riotous fun and a film shown on the big screen as it was meant to be seen!  Gates open at 7p, with the movie scheduled to start after dusk.  This event will be cancelled due to heavy rain.

Side note:  The movie for August 18th has been changed and will not be ‘The Fifth Element’ with Bruce Willis.  Recent reports are that ‘Mamma Mia:  The Movie’ will be shown that night, rather than August 4th, as originally scheduled.

On August 4th, a special 21+ only screening will be held of the film, ‘Beerfest,’ as part of the Paulaner U.S. Bier Garten Tour and fundraiser for The Healing Center.  Sponsored in part by Prost Tavern, this event will also feature a selection of mobile food trucks for your dining pleasure and cost a measly $5 for entry.

Enjoy summer out under the stars in Fremont!
