In an effort to get household customers to clear leaves from storm drains, Seattle Public Utility (SPU) will allow for free extra yard waste during the month of November.

Fallen leaves block storm drains and lead to flooding.  Raking leaves, and clearing yards and streets of tree detritus, allows for the flow of rainwater into drains rather than backing up over sidewalks and into homes.

SPU customers can set out extra leaves in paper bags or containers that contain only yard waste.  Extra leaves will be picked up during November on regular collection day.  For more information on where to dispose of household hazardous waste, visit the HazWasteHelp.org site or call 206-296-4692.  Find out more about SPU services on the Seattle.org/util website.
