Celebrate Small Business Saturday By Supporting Local Stores & Restaurants

Today is Small Business SaturdayTM and a good day to remember what small, local businesses do for our community.

According to Kerrie Hurd, Small Business Administration Director for District 10, “We often think of the big corporations that our state is becoming increasingly known for, but half of the Washington workforce is employed by small businesses.  When you shop small, you keep that American dream alive and well in Washington.”

“Small Business Saturday is about supporting local businesses and creating jobs,” explained Linda McMahon, Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, “Small businesses are the engine of our national economy.  We now have in the United States about 30 million small businesses.  And two out of three new jobs are created by small business.  Those are pretty powerful and compelling statistics.”

According to SBA statistics, there are nearly 1.2 million small businesses in the Pacific Northwest employing 2.5 million people.  Small businesses are the innovators, job creators and entrepreneurs.

Fremont has a high concentration of small, local businesses in our district, and they can use our support and patronage.  This holiday season, consider shopping and dining at places where you can know everyone’s name – and know that your money is staying in our community.
