Save The Date(s) – Upcoming Fremont Fireside Chats

800pxFFCPosterOct14RogerWheelerOn Saturday, October 4th, at 3p, enjoy a Fremont Fireside Chat with Artist/Historian Roger Wheeler.  At History House, in the comfortable salon (before the eco-friendly televised fireplace) Wheeler can give a first-hand account of Fremont history and culture.

This free, one-hour presentation, sponsored by HomeStreet Bank, brings one of Fremont’s founding artists back to the Center of the Universe to talk about how we earned the right to De Libertas Quirkas (the Freedom To Be Peculiar.)  While living in Fremont from 1956 – 2004, Wheeler helped start the Fremont Arts Council, operated an arts supply store, worked at the Fremont Sunday Market, worked on the Fremont Rocket, and wrote about Fremont history for the Fremont Chamber of Commerce.

Wheeler will talk about his experiences, but he will also take questions from attendees – and be available for casual chat after the presentation, during a juice-and-cookie reception in the museum’s covered sculpture garden.

Then get even more on Fremont history at the November 15th Fireside Chat (at 3p) when we explore the development of our community from 1850 – 1900.  In 2012, as part of the ‘Timber To Troll’ history project, at History House, students created a Fremont history timeline.  This presentation will go farther into the timeline using Fremocentrist.com research, and materials provided by the Seattle Public Library Neighborhood History Project, to give a better idea of how Fremont began.

FHSAug06_ArmenStepanian&RogerWheelerTo celebrate the 140th anniversary of the platting of Fremont, on January 24, 2015, a very special Fireside Chat will take place featuring Fremont’s Mayor Armen Napoleon Stepanian.  Beginning at 2p, also at History House, come see the humble carpenter and ‘Christopher Columbus of Recycling’ and learn what it takes to get a blue-and-orange bridge, a Fremont Fair and an entire neighborhood to organize its own gentrification.
