On Saturday, February 28th, from 10a – 2p, at the Woodland Park Zoo Rose Garden you can learn everything you never realized that you didn’t know about roses, and the care of these gorgeous flowers, with members of the Seattle Rose Society – for free!

Need tips on pruning roses?  Need guidance about the proper tools to use in your rose garden?  Need basic information about how to plant or cultivate roses?  Come to the annual rose pruning demonstration.  Learn about roses, see how to care for them and get answers to your questions by the rosarians.

Our moderate climate provides one of the finest rose growing environments in the world, and the Woodland Park Rose Garden is an idyllic, tranquil public space full of the glorious specimens.  Begun in 1922 by the Seattle Rose Society and the Seattle Lion’s Club, the purpose was to provide a free display of roses suitable for Seattle’s climate.  Originally prepared by Howard E. Andrews, the construction was completed in 1924 with 1.8 acres exhibiting 150 varieties of roses.  Today, the Garden is 2 ½ acres with bush roses, hybrid teas, miniatures, climbers, and tree roses to create a memorable showcase of 3,000 individual plants, presenting 200 different varieties.

Admission to the annual pruning demonstration is free, although Zoo parking fees will apply.
