Fremont Bridge Closures This Weekend

This weekend, March 28th & 29th, in the wee hours (midnight – 7a,) the Fremont Bridge will be closed to all vehicles (cars, trucks and transit) while the construction crew finishes painting the 100-year-old structure.  During the closure, two five-minute bridge crossing opportunities will be offered for pedestrians and bicycle riders at 1:20a and 2:20a.  The Bridge will be open to all maritime traffic during the closure.

Since September 2014, a contractor hired by the City of Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has been cleaning, prepping and painting the bridge.  Delays due to bad weather (or bad forecasts) have delayed the work.  The contractor added a second shift to make up some of the time, but closures like the one this weekend help speed along the work.

Painting of the Fremont Bridge will be completed soon.  Stay tuned, here, for an announcement about a conclusion celebration sometime in April.
