Kvichak Marine Industries, a Vigor Company and Fremont-based boat builder, recently won a contract to design and build a 48’ all-aluminum foil assisted research catamaran for the King County Environmental Laboratory.  The vessel will conduct water sampling research in Puget Sound and the Straits of Juan de Fuca.

This is the 13th foil assisted catamaran Kvichak has built since 2000.  Their unique design enhances seakeeping at top speeds to reduce fuel consumption and improve efficiency, and at lower speeds to provide considerable dampening of heave and pitch.

“King County’s environmental lab serves a mission to help protect and enhance water quality in the Puget Sound region so our citizens can continue to enjoy it for years to come,” said Keith Whittemore, Vigor executive vice-president of business development, “that’s definitely a mission near and dear to our hearts.  The Kvichak team is proud to provide a vessel that will assist in this important work.”

This vessel features a full-service water-quality lab, a chemical storage locker, a 36” x 36” moon pool, and two staterooms.   Delivery of the finished catamaran is scheduled for summer of 2016.  For more information on this, contact Kvichak at sales@kvichak.com or 206/545-8485.
