The Awards for Best of Fremont 2015 have been presented to the winners chosen by Fremocentrist.com readers.  With a record number of ballots submitted, readers determined the winners as:

Best Citizen – Darcy Stone

With help of fellow staff, fans, and library administrators, Darcy Stone was greatly surprised by the presentation of the Fremont’s Best Citizen Award – along with a PCC cake, donated by Seattle Public Library Supervising Librarian Andy Bates.  Stone works at the Fremont Branch Library, where her friendly, informative and inclusive ways behind the checkout desk have been enjoyed by many.  Voters appreciated her on her own merits, as well as wanting to show support of our libraries.  Stone joined an auspicious history of Fremont’s Best Citizen recipients, which includes Mitzi Simons, Charles Hadrann, and the Lake Union Houseboat residents.

Best Business – Theo Chocolate

Over 23 Fremont businesses were nominated for 2015, although only one came out – and clearly on top!  This manufacturer has sponsored and donated many community events and non-profit organizations.  The local, organic chocolate maker has already won numerous awards for its recipes and business practices, yet owner and founder Joe Whinney appreciated this show of support by Theo’s neighbors and friends.  Theo becomes the latest winner in a list that includes Kaosamai Thai Restaurant & Catering, Café Turko, and Brown Paper Tickets.

Best Organization/Project – History House of Greater Seattle

The staff of our local museum, Director Paul Nordstrand and Operations Manager John Nordstrand, were quite surprised to receive this show of neighborhood support, as they had to accept it from their temporary facilities.  Demolition of the original location of History House required the museum to relocate into storage facilities, and stay closed to the public, until a new plan and location can be established.  While the staff feel bad about their inaccessibility to HH supporters, it may be their move that won over Fremocentrist.com voters.

It is to be noted that the Rotary Club of Fremont (The Fun Club) and its work in 2015 on the Dinosaur Topiaries, came in a close second to History House.  Past recipients for Best Fremont Project/Organization include B.F. Day Playground Improvement Project, Doric Lodge #92, and Moisture Festival.

Remember, voting for the 2016 Best of Fremont opens on November 15th.  Please keep this in mind throughout the year, and get ready to identify next year’s winners.  If you have any questions on the Best of Fremont awards, contact instigator@box2219.temp.domains
