Tucked behind regular homes that look like standard urban dwellings from the front, many of these urban farms will surprise and amaze visitors.  Discover urban livestock, impressive chicken coops, bountiful organic gardens, food forests, compost systems, wildlife friendly gardens, rain gardens, solar energy systems, permaculture designs and fanciful garden art.  See mini dairy goats, ducks, pigs, and working bee hives.

Seattle Tilth will have judges out, determining award winners for Community Star, Innovation Station and other prizes.  Tour attendees will be asked to vote for the People’s Choice Award on-line.  The tours, begun here in 1999 and now copied across the country, are intended to spark an interest and inspiration for chicken husbandry and urban farming, even if done small-scale.

Tickets, available now, can be purchased for $15 per person ($8 for kids,) with discounts for groups, Seattle Tilth members and cyclists.  Buy your tickets now on-line, or at the Portage Bay Grange or Seattle Farm Co-op.  Also, consider supporting Seattle Tilth by purchasing a Chicken Coop & Urban Farm Tour t-shirt, through the Seattle Tilth website or at the Tilth main office at the Good Shepherd Center in Wallingford.
