The Seattle Public Library offers many free programs, open-to-the-public, including two great opportunities this month at the Fremont Branch Library.

On Saturday, October 1st, from 2p – 5p, the Fremont Library will once again offer its ‘Unplug & Play’ series.  On the first Saturday of the month, come enjoy board games – for all ages.  Play Netrunners, Chess, Scrabble, Clue, UNO, Mille Bornes, Battleship, Munchkin Treasure Hunt and more.  Coloring pages for artists of all ages will also be available, along with some snacks.

On Monday, October 10th, at 6:30p, An Evening Of Poetry returns to the Fremont Library for this quarterly series of local poets reading and discussing their work.  Organized with Floating Bridge Press, this showcase features:

  • Richard Widerkehr, published novelist and poet, who won the University of Michigan Hopwood Award for his poetry.
  • Michael Magee, of Tacoma, had his play, ‘A Night In Reading Gaol with Oscar Wilde’ produced in England, while his poetry has appeared in magazines and on PoetryAtlas.com
  • Jesse Minkert has had his work in several journals, along with publication of his collection of microstories, ‘Shortness of Breath & Other Symptoms’.

Even if poetry isn’t your ‘thing,’ consider stopping by ‘An Evening Of Poetry’ to give this art form a chance – and to talk with the poets about this expression of creativity.  If poetry is your great love, this is a wonderful way to spend a fall evening, and be exposed to new, local poets.

If you have any questions about either of these programs, or the Fremont Branch in general, call the library staff at 206/684-4084, or stop by the branch any time.
