On March 8th, at 7p, the Woodland Park Zoo is hosting a free event to educate and advocate on bringing Grizzly Bears back to the North Cascades.  The Friends of the North Cascades Grizzly Bear have put together this celebration of the iconic bears, with a screening of a new short film called, ‘Time for the Grizzly?’

This event will include an overview about recovering the grizzly bear to Washington’s North Cascades ecosystem, a panel discussion and audience question & answer period, and screening of a film by Chris Morgan, acclaimed filmmaker and bear expert.  The film follows the story of grizzly bear recovery in Montana’s Cabinet Mountains.

Preceding the film will be a presentation from Jack Oelfke, Chief of the Natural & Cultural Resources at the North Cascades National Park Service.  He will discuss the public process undertaken by government agencies, and describe potential options under consideration to restore the grizzly population.

Opportunities to submit public comment or provide feedback on the recovery plan will be available through the evening.

Doors will open for this singular event at 6:30p on March 8th, with presentations scheduled to begin at 7:15p.  Held in Woodland Park Zoo’s Education Center Auditorium, entry will be off the adjacent Hippo parking lot (on the south side of the Zoo, at Fremont Ave N & N 50th St.)  Parking in the Hippo lot will be free during this event, with light snacks and beer generously provided by Ninkasi Brewing Co.

Due to limited space, and anticipated wide-interest, pre-registration is necessary for this free educational event.  Reserve a seat through the Brown Paper Tickets website.
