On August 17th, Fremont lost one of its stalwart volunteers, and a family lost a loving father, grandfather and husband.  A. Richard (Dic) Selin (1934 – 2017) had a career at the Boeing Company, but he gave his heart and a lifetime of effort to his many volunteer activities helping build and enhance our community.

A Fremont resident, Selin could be found at community meetings and engaged, hands-on, in volunteer activities since the 1970s, including leading the Fremont Neighborhood Council, participating in the Citywide Review Team and serving on the Lake Union District Council.  His experience, both in his work and as a longtime volunteer, proved invaluable in identifying ways organizations he worked with could be most effective and successful in realizing their programs and plans.

In addition, Selin gave 22 years of volunteer service to the Group Health Cooperative, and 25 years to St. Mary’s Church.  He and Rita Selin, his wife of 60 years, could be found helping all around our city over the last decades – giving generously of their time and talents.  In the end, Selin gave everything he had, donating his body to the Willed Body Program at the University of Washington.

A celebration of Selin’s life of giving and serving will be held on Saturday, September 2nd at 1p at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  A reception will be held following the service, and expect there to be ice cream.  Read more about the life of this great friend of Fremont in the obituary in The Seattle Times, August 27th.
