Through January, Seattle Utilities will allow free disposal of clean Christmas trees, when set out with food & yard waste bins.

As it does every year, Seattle Public Utilities will allow customers to compost their natural Christmas tree, wreaths and other greens for free curbside or dropped off at the North Transfer Station (or South,) through January 31st, 2018.

For those disposing of holiday greens at the curb, please place them next to the Food & Yard Waste Bin on collection day.  Please keep in mind to remove all decorations (lights, tinsel, metal hangers, ornaments, bows, etc.)  Flocked and plastic trees/wreaths will be charged as extra garbage.  Trees must be cut into lengths of 4-feet or shorter, bundled with sisal string or twine (no plastic.)  At apartments, one tree may be placed next to each Food & Yard Waste cart at no extra charge each collection day.

Before disposing of Christmas greens, remove all decorations and non-green bits.

For those able to transport their trees and greens, to the Transfer Stations, holiday greens will be free for disposal until January 31st.  Trees must not exceed 8-feet in length, they must be free of decoration, and trunks should not exceed 4-inches in diameter.  Up to three trees will be accepted, for free, per vehicle.

Please also remember, next week all waste collections will be delayed one day, due to the Monday holiday.  Those with waste pick-up regularly held on Mondays, will have their collection on Tuesday, January 2nd, and those with regular Friday pick-up, will have their trash collected on Saturday, January 6th.
