Help public fruit trees near you make more and better fruit for everyone to enjoy by becoming a City Orchard Steward – through the Fremont-based non-profit City Fruit.

City Fruit can teach volunteers all they need to know about caring for public fruit trees, young and old, large and small, from plums, cherries, and persimmons to apples, pears and quince.  The City Fruit Orchard Steward program empowers its volunteers to join or lead activities in our neighborhood.  Orchard Stewards may work alone, in a team with other stewards, or lead volunteer groups.

Orchard Stewards should expect to spend 20 hours, throughout the year, on tree care in an orchard close to them.  City Fruit will provide Stewards with three free trainings that include information on fruit tree pruning, organic pest prevention, and fruit tree biology.  In addition, City Fruit will be organizing quarterly opportunities for stewards to meet and learn from each other, as well as visiting other orchards.

Find out more about the City Fruit Orchard Steward program at CityFruit.org, or contact barb@cityfruit.org if you are interested in signing up to volunteer!
