Starting this week, the construction team working on the North Seattle Transfer Station will begin transforming the parking lot at Carr Place N and Woodlawn Ave N into a public play area.

Demolition of the current parking lot will take place first, with drainage and structural excavation to follow.  At the end of December, sidewalk and gutter work along Woodlawn Ave N is scheduled to begin.  The Carr Place open space/play area is planned for completion in February 2016.

During construction, expect closures on N 35th Street, between Stone Way & Woodlawn Ave, to private vehicles (METRO will still be able to pass the area although the bus stop at Woodlawn will be temporarily relocated.)  Flaggers will direct local traffic during work hours.

The play area came from community recommendations during the design process for the North Transfer Station, currently under construction.  The new Transfer Station will process solid waste more efficiently to help reach the City of Seattle zero-waste goal, and will incorporate many features to reduce traffic congestion, noise, and odor.  The newly built Station is expected to open in 2016, after two years of construction.
