Join In Spring & Summer Solstice Celebrations With The FAC

Each year, the Fremont Arts Council welcomes the spring on May 1st. Join them!! This 1997 photo comes thanks to the FAC Archives, and Michael Falcone.

On May 1^st, starting at 5p, the Fremont Arts Council (FAC) will celebrate May Day, with dancing, feasting, games, and the wearing of white. Help weave the ribbons around the May Pole, and celebrate the arrival of spring. Bring your picnic basket, and wander down to the Lower Woodland picnic shelters (nearest the lawn bowling) to enjoy a family-friendly, traditional pagan May Day. The FAC depends on volunteer efforts, for May Day and for its annual, legendary Fremont Solstice Parade. Please consider getting involved.

If you like to plan and prepare, and pull strings from behind the scenes, the FAC will be holding weekly meetings on the Parade from now until June 17^th, at 1p, when the 29^th Parade takes to the streets of Fremont with its kaleidoscope of art. The meetings are open to everyone, of every age, race, nationality, gender, and artistic skill, and will be held at the FAC Powerhouse workshop on:

First & Second Tuesdays (April 11^th, May 2^nd & 9^th, and June 6^th & 13^th) at 7p
Third & Fourth Mondays (April 17^th & 24^th, and May 15^th & 22^nd) at 7p

The FAC will host a Powerhouse Open House for the Fremont Solstice Parade, in conjunction with the B.F. Day Carnival on May 20th! Save the date!!

May 5^th at 6p (as part of the Fremont First Friday Art Walk) attend the Artist’s Reception to hear about some of the plans for installations at the Parade – and ways volunteers can help realize these visions. The Dave McKay Grant Reception will take place at Doric Temple #92.

May 20^th at Noon (as part of the B.F. Day 125^th Anniversary Carnival!) attend the Powerhouse Open House to meet volunteers and artists building the Parade, and see what creativity can be created on-site. Stop by to snoop through the magical mystery of the Powerhouse, and see art being made, before your very eyes – and lend a hand!

If you like to get creative, and down & dirty, pick up a glue gun, glitter or musical instrument and participate in the build. Volunteers are needed immediately to help put this walking celebration art together.
