The Woodland Park Zoo has announced the arrival of its annual Spring ‘Fecal Fest’ – where local gardeners enter bids to purchase the highly-coveted, exotic Zoo Doo and Bedspread, created by the Zoo critters. All season Dr. Doo, also known as the ‘Prince of Poo’, the ‘GM of BM’ and the ‘Grand Poopah’, piles the most desired compost in Seattle and now it is time to spread the rich stuff ‘round.
From now through March 29th, online submissions will be accepted. According to supply and demand, entries will be randomly selected until all of this season’s Zoo Doo and Bedspread is gone. Dr. Doo will contact the winning submitters, and they can pick-up their compost materials (using Zoo shovels) between April 11th – May 3rd.
The long popular Zoo Doo compost is available, along with Bedspread – a composted mulch made from manures and bedding of the zoo’s non-primate herbivores. Bedspread is much like Zoo Doo but it contains higher amounts of wood chips and sawdust – an ideal mulch for Northwest Gardens.
The prices for Bedspread are:
- $60 for pick-up truck bed 8’ x 4’
- $50 for pick-up truck bed 6’ x 4’
- $40 for pick-up truck bed 6’ x 3’
- (limit of two full truck loads per person) please remember to secure your load
For Zoo Doo, prices are:
- $5 for 5 gallons
- $10 for 10 gallons
- $15 for 25 gallons
- $20 for 50 gallons
- $4.95 for pint-sized containers available at the ZooStore
- (limit to 100 gallons per recipient – no truckloads)
