On Wednesday, June 15th, the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with many other North Seattle business organizations, will host a City Council Candidate’s Forum at Gas Works Park. This annual tradition offers a great lunch (this year done by Cameron Catering,) time to network and schmooze with area business owners and movers & shakers, plus an invaluable chance to meet the folk who want your vote in the 2011 election for the Seattle City Council.
Every year the Fremont Chamber hosts a ‘Picnic In The Park,’ but only every other can they welcome the City Council Candidates. Held early in the campaign season, this event has provided a great opportunity for candidates to meet their constituents, find out the issues – particularly those of the business-minded voters – and seek out those who might donate to a worthy candidate.
Yet, this is primarily a great chance for voters to meet the candidates before the patter gets polished, and while there is time to influence impressions of issues we care most about. Also, the incumbents nearly always attend, as those who have not, historically, went on to lose their re-election bid. This makes it a valuable forum for addressing current concerns.
Picnic In The Park 2011 will be hosted by the Green Lake, Greenwood/Phinney, Wallingford and Fremont Chambers of Commerce, in addition to the Aurora Avenue Merchants Association and the North Seattle Industrial Association. And according to the Fremont Chamber Executive Director, Jessica Vets, most City Council candidates have confirmed their attendance.
For a $20 meeting fee, and an R.S.V.P., everyone is welcome to come hear the candidates, and ask their questions. For more information, or to R.S.V.P., contact the Fremont Chamber, or any of the host organizations.
