This week, the Fremont First Friday Art Walk, on June 1st from 6p – 9p, launches Fremont Month, along with the Fremont Fun Run & Briefcase Relay going on from 5p – 9p. Both events set the tone for the celebrations to come – showing the fun, culture and creativity endemic to our community.
The free Fremont Art Walk allows anyone to wander the ‘hood, checking out local shops and restaurants that open that night specifically to display art by artists they’ve discovered and want to share with the rest of us. Stop by to see the art, talk to the artist and meet our neighbors!
Check the map to find out which venues are participating for June, but be sure to visit these venues:
- Lilith Tattoo – Our newest tattoo parlor & piercing studio has filled its walls with art by the artists working in the shop, including founder Jude Le Tronik. The featured artist for June is printmaker Elizabeth Ortega, a young local artist helping out at Lilith. Come by the shop and say hello, while checking out the art.
- Portage Bay Goods – Enjoy the whimsical watercolors of Erin Wetzell as we usher in summer. The ladies at PBG will make the evening fun, with wine and snacks and plenty of time to explore the playful items that fill this gift shop.
- Frame Up Studios – The annual Fremont Fair Poster Print Retrospective will be on-display all month long, with historic posters from over the 45 years of the Fair alongside the new poster for 2018. The new poster art is by Kyler Martz, the renowned and popular artist responsible for several pieces of public art in Fremont. Frame Up will have copies of the poster art, with original signed and numbered screenprints available soon.
- Pel’Meni Dumpling Tzar – An established oil painter and instructor, Keenoy will be displaying a series of surrealistic and portraiture pieces entitled ‘Home Of The Brave.’ Based in Pioneer Square, Keenoy organizes classes and mentorships for other artists. This series is based on private notes written by gallery walkers and deposited in a vase labeled ‘talk to me’, sharing childhood stories transcribed in house-paint on tar paper.
The Fremont Art Walk brings artists, and art, to our community for us to see and experience. Be a part of this amazing display. Check the FFF map of participating venues on-line, and plan your path to the Fremont First Friday Art Walk!
