Seattle Public Utilities has finished design of the storage tunnel to be built from Ballard to Wallingford.

The Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is gathering information on flooding and standing water in the neighborhoods for a formal study.  Please help to identify areas where the system isn’t working, and contribute to future upgrades, by submitting information on the Flooding Study website (click here.)

Meanwhile, SPU continues its work on the Ship Canal Water Quality Project, and has reached a milestone – the design of the 2.7 mile, 18’10” diameter storage tunnel is complete and the contract for construction will be put out soon.  The elongated storage will collect overflow waste water from areas between Ballard and Wallingford, all along Fremont, with another tunnel running beneath the Ship Canal from Queen Anne to Fremont.

The storage tunnel will terminate at the foot of Stone Way, and March 4th – 7th, SPU will be drilling five boring holes along the west side of Stone Way and the north side of N 35th, to obtain geotechnical data for the design.
