Going on now, the Fremont Arts Council and Peter Toms are offering public workshops on the art of lantern making at the Powerhouse, at 3940 Fremont Avenue North.  Workshops will take place Wednesday and Thursday, September 14th & 15th, from 6p – 9p, on Sunday, September 18th from Noon to 6p, and Tuesday and Wednesday, September 19th – 21st from 6p – 9p.

This is all preparation for Luminata, the annual lantern walk around Green Lake, held on September 22nd starting at 7p.  Everyone is invited to participate, holding lanterns aloft and strolling the shores starting at the Aqua Theater (a.k.a. the Small Crafts Center.)

FAC member Mylinda Sneed recently pointed out, “this is a participatory event,” and bringing a lantern made by hand is part of the fun.  If you don’t have time to stop by the workshop, or to build a lantern in your spare time, don’t worry!  The FAC will have lanterns for sale this year, with proceeds going to support their programs and events.  Show up a few minutes early to get the best selection and your choice of the lantern of your dreams!
