On June 27th, workers from the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) came and installed a bike rack and painted stripes on the street for bicycle parking on North 36th Street, at the end of Dayton Avenue North.
This area has become, more and more, a place where drivers park cars and trucks unload, illegally. The bike rack, and the stripes, will make it clearer to drivers that the area is not appropriate for vehicles. At least one nearby property owner hopes that this new area will also be used for bike-share parking, to leave nearby sidewalks clearer.
According to the SDOT website (click here,) on-street bike parking will be considered upon the request of an adjacent business owner, or under guidelines in the draft Seattle Bike Parking Guidelines pdf. For more information, contact walkandbike@seattle.gov or 206-684-7583.
