More SR99/Aurora Bridge Lane Closures Coming Up

UPDATE:  On July 11th, press releases reported that the July 12th lane closures would not take place due to unfavorable weather forecasts.  The next closure is still on August 9th.

Lane closures on the Aurora Bridge are scheduled for the weekend of July 12th, along with closure of the on-ramp at Fremont Way N.

Over this summer, due to maintenance work, expect weekend restrictions on traffic across the George Washington Memorial Bridge, a.k.a. the Aurora Bridge, and along Aurora Avenue/SR99.  Find out specific details about the Bridge Work on the Washington State Department of Transportation website (click here.)

On Friday, July 12th at 7p, Bridge traffic will be reduced to one lane, in both directions, so crews from Lakeside Industries can repave the north end of the southbound lanes.  They’ll check for unreported damage, and make any needed repairs, before replacing the asphalt.  The lanes are expected to reopen by 5a on Monday, July 15th, although all the work is extremely weather-dependent.

This work is part of on-going maintenance of the 88-year-old bridge structure.  Part of the replacement of the bridge surface is getting an opportunity to check out the bridge deck beneath it, and attend to any necessary repairs before serious structural damage occurs.

Further lane closures are scheduled for:

  • August 9 – 12
  • August 16 – 19
  • and August 23 – 26

Also, in addition to the lane closures, the on-ramp at Fremont Way N (off Bridge Way) will be closed during the July 12th – 15th work.  Find out more on the WSDOT website.

In addition to maintaining the Aurora Bridge, crews will continue with  pavement repair work on Aurora Avenue, between Winona Avenue and N 100th St, as part of a two-year project.  Learn more on the construction webpage (click here.)
