This morning, on July 8th, at 1:30a, a fire was reported on the Glass Eye Studio campus near the Ship Canal. The Seattle Fire Department got the fire under control, with no injuries reported, by 3:30a.
The fire, the source of which is still under investigation, burned the storage warehouse of the glass blowing business. When Fire Crews arrived the entire building was engulfed and the fire had to be fought from the outside for a great deal of time. Fire fighters also had to defend the other building on the property, keeping the fire from spreading to the kilns fed by natural gas.
Seattle Fire Fighters kept the fire from spreading, but the loss of the warehouse means loss of a great deal of product and materials, plus the potential loss of original art made at Glass Eye. So far, the extent of the loss, and the cause of the fire, remain unreported.
