This Friday, January 6th, be one of the hardy! One of the proud! One of the potentially soggy, wet messes to trudge through Fremont and experience the First Friday Art Walk, from 6p – 9p. It’ll be so worth it!
As typical for January, fewer venues have signed up to participate – but there remain plenty showing art, sharing treats and welcoming visitors into their warm, dry spaces. Also, new Director Mollie Bryan has started her reign as Art Walk goddess with a new venue – High Dive.
High Dive has the art of Christopher J. Olson, founder of Echo Echo Gallery. While experimentation in different mediums and techniques has led Olson to create several large bodies of work in various styles, he always approaches his creations from a simple concept, drawing or doodle. He sets out to create a narrative that explores the light and dark sides of imaginary worlds. High Dive remains a 21+ venue, and offers some drink specials during the Art Walk for adult walkers in need of libations…
In addition to High Dive, explore regularly participating venues Hub And Bespoke, and Kylie’s Chicago Pizza. And check out this line-up:
- Frame-Up Studios – images by Ballard artist Ben Chamberlain
- Portage Bay Goods – showing the monsters, robots and nonsense of Justin Hillgrove
- Pel’meni Dumpling Tzar – photos by Stacy Schonhardt, from her series ‘Circles and Squares’
- Brown Paper Tickets (upstairs from LTD Bar + Grill) – the art of Erin Hilleary
- Fremont Jewelry Design – paintings by Marianne Maksirisombat, both traditional canvas or three-dimensional formed steel constructions
- ArtFX Gallery – showing the collage quilt block of Lewis Curtiss, Jr.
- EVO TimesInfinity Gallery – paintings by Helen Sophia Wojcik
- 509 Winery & Tasting Room – images by Mark Morgan, of Whiteline Photography, plus music (‘Roots, Blues and Hollers from the 30’s and beyond…’) by Maxwell Street Revival and eats for sale by The Bistro Box food truck.
January usually provides a great Art Walk experience, with smaller crowds and venues that participate because they’ve just got great art. Check the line-up just before you go on the FFF website. Come out and Walk this First Friday – and look for Mollie Bryan…the woman with the blue hair!
