A Hardcore February Fremont First Friday Art Walk

Watercolor by Chris Adams, on display at High Dive in February 2012

Walking Fremont on a February evening, for the First Friday Art Walk on February 3rd from 6p – 9p, separates the art warriors from the weather wimps.  Those tough enough – and willing to face potential rain and guaranteed dark to see art – will have plenty to see and explore this month.

Theo Chocolate has rejoined the walk, showing photography by Nate Watters that captures the dynamic colors, machinery and ingredients of the chocolate factory.  Frame-Up Studios has visually stunning photographic and scanned images manipulated, using digital technology and chemistry, by Michael Angelo Caci.  Portage Bay Goods offers the delightful images Seattle-based artist Claire Jauregui, of Orange Twist cards, who started her humorous line of hand screenprinted note cards in 2008.

The newest addition to the regular FFF line-up, High Dive, has the bold watercolor designs of native Seattleite, and tattoo artist, Chris Adams.  In the tree house offices of Brown Paper Tickets (upstairs from LTD Bar & Grill,) see works by Starheadboy, which pose the question – ‘what do your pets do when you are at work, and out of their sight?’  Also hear the music of Rachel Wong.  At Hub And Bespoke, enjoy the graphics of artist (and bicycle mechanic) Soren O’Malley.

Also, make it a priority to make the trek to the offices of Johnston Architects PLLC and see images created using text – specifically Gertrude Stein’s writings – by Sally Schuh.  Then explore shows going on also at Fremont Jewelry Design, Art F/X Gallery, Evo TimesInfinity Gallery, Kylie’s Chicago Pizza and 509 Winery & Tasting Room.

Most importantly, start the evening by celebrating, and giving thanks, to Melanie Masson, from 6p – 7:30p.  After two years as FFF organizer, Masson has moved on and found some commercial success with her photography.  Enjoy some 509 Wine and cake with Masson, at Pel’meni Dumpling Tzar, while also enjoying the photographic and ceramic works of the restaurant’s owner Zach Perry.

Explore art out and about this Friday, February 3rd, as one of the few, the proud and the hardy!  Before you go, though, check the Fremont First Friday website for the latest information on venues, artists and activities to see and enjoy.
