Tonight turn clocks forward one hour to for Daylight Savings Time. At 2a on Sunday, March 11th, all clocks in our region will be set forward an hour – and leave most of us an hour less to sleep. Why not take a preventative nap…and lose an hour of fun instead.
Daylight Savings Time, according to Wikipedia, began during the First World War to allow more daylight for evening entertainment purposes in the after work hours. The practice reduced the need for artificial lighting in the evening, an environmental advantage as well.
The practice – which will allow an extra hour for sleep (or fun) in the fall – has many critics. Here in Fremont, Daylight Savings Time will demand a change of clocks – but as Fremonsters so rarely adhere to strict time tables, it is not clear if it even matters…
