The Fremont Neighborhood Council Annual Meeting, on Monday, April 23rd, has something to interest residents as well as business people, artists and all other kinds of Fremonsters – all at the Doric Lodge #92 starting at 6:30p.
First up, the FNC will host a community-wide celebration of gratitude to George Heidemen. This local resident and architect just recently resigned from his post on the FNC Board, where he has served – off and on – since it began in the 1970s. Heideman has also served on the boards of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce and the Fremont Arts Council throughout the histories of both groups. He has been a fixture of community activism, and building, for several decades, and leant his skills to several projects that improved and/or maintained our community and helped pull Fremont out of the crime-ridden, boarded-up mess of the 1970s to transform it into the Center of the Universe we all adore today.
Then, during the FNC official meeting (which starts at 7p) the guest speaker will be Jim Diers. Diers has published a book called ‘Neighborhood Power: Building Community the Seattle Way,’ based on his comprehensive experience of community building as founder and head of the City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods. Today Diers teaches about architecture, social work and community initiative at the University of Washington, and travels world-wide speaking about the power we all have in shaping our community.
This meeting, which will also include board elections and short reports from FNC committee chairpersons, promises to be a significant event. Please make time to attend – or miss out!
