Join the race to the beer garden during the Fremont Oktoberfest on Sunday, September 23rd, at 10a, for the 10th Annual 5K Brew Ha-Ha. The official route takes runners from Solstice Plaza (behind 837 N 34th St) along the scenic Burke-Gilman Trail and the Lake Washington Ship Canal – and to the beer gardens of the Oktoberfest at the Center of the Universe.
Event producer Bold Hat Productions has provided some ‘training quips’ for this ultimate beer run:
- Register early. Pre-registration for the race is $25 and includes a Fremont Oktoberfest 5K t-shirt with day-of registration at $35, and no guarantee for a t-shirt
- Consider participating in a special running division. The Oktoberfest 5K has a Beer Belly Division for those that qualify for this prestigious position (men at 220+ lbs/women at 175+ lbs – with a scale on site to prove all claims.) Beer Belly racers will be treated royally, and earn the advantage of starting first – to better reach the beer garden ahead of the crowd! Team divisions – four runners in costume, dirndl, or lederhosen – will compete based on average race times – and have more fun running with friends!
- Train often. Practice for the Fremont Oktoberfest 5K at one of the other upcoming 5Ks including the Great Kilted Run, Alki Beach 5K, or Iron Girl 5K.
- Stay motivated. Setting realistic goals is an easy way for any runner to stay motivated to complete a race. For the Fremont Oktoberfest 5K, reaching the beer garden is a popular goal – and treating yourself to a refreshing microbrew as reward for completing the first run of fall.
Kick off the fall with the season’s first 5K – presented by Pyramid Breweries! For more information or to register to run, visit FremontOktoberfest.com/run, and keep up with the Fremont Oktoberfest 5K runners on Twitter – @FOktoberfest.
