Word on the street is that the Seattle Office of the Mayor is consulting with Fremont property and business owners along one block of North 34th Street – between Fremont Ave N and Troll Ave N – about giving that stretch an honorary name in memory of Seattle’s favorite clown, J.P. Patches.
An honorary name would mean that none of the buildings or businesses along this street would need to change their addresses. Also, as an honorary name, the change would not require approval of the United States Postal Service.
It would, however, be yet another nod to the character that charmed and delighted, and often consoled, generations of Seattle children. It would also further cement the perception of Fremont as a place to recall the innocent fun of the J.P. Patches Show!
Next step – a write-in campaign to get the North Seattle Transfer Station renamed ‘The Patches City Dump’! Anyone?
