At 4p on Friday, December 21st, the Washington Department Of Transportation issued an advisory that traffic lanes will be closed on the Aurora Bridge on Saturday, December 22nd. The closures are scheduled to take place between 5a – 9a.
The contractor crews will remove metal plates on the north and south ends of the Bridge, currently covering expansion joints installed to provide more seismic strength to the 100-year-old historic structure. This removal will close four of the six lanes of the roadway.
This work is a final task in the extensive project, originally planned for completion in Fall of 2012. No word has been reported on how much longer the project will take to complete, and if further closures are planned.
