This Saturday, May 18th, the Fremont Arts Council invites everyone to stop by their playhouse, The Powerhouse (3940 Fremont Ave N,) for an Open House of the parade building studio. From Noon – 4p, Solstice Parade staff and volunteers will be on-hand to show off the studio, showcase ensembles already begun (and ready for volunteers,) and help visionaries launch their own ensemble for the Solstice Parade coming up on June 22nd at 3p.
In addition to the Open House, at 1p on May 18th, Maque da Vis will be leading a special, open discussion entitled, ‘Parade? What Were We Thinking?’ da Vis has studied this genre of performance art, as well as being an active participant in many, many, too many years of the Solstice Parade. Come hear a brief historical review, a highly cursory differential of what a parade is (the types of, whys of, and rebellions for,) and about the FAC Solstice Parade in particular. If you like, come dressed in parade attire!
For those seriously interested in participating in the Solstice Parade, in any capacity, please attend the first Parade Meeting of the season. It will be held from 7p – 9p on Thursday, May 16th, at The Powerhouse. The proposed agenda is:
- Welcome & Introductions (including Parade Staff)
- Ensemble Updates
- Volunteer Jobs Available
- Art Studio Discussion: art workshops, staffing the studio & scrounging supplies
Come learn more about the 25th Solstice Parade, and get involved! The only thing more fun than watching the Solstice Parade is being in it!! For more information, visit the Fremont Arts Council website.
