Playground Equipment and Contractor Bids Pending for B.F. Day Playground Improvement Project

The community based effort to improve the playground surrounding the historic B.F. Day Elementary School building continues to move forward.

The committee culled the eight proposals for playground equipment down to three.  Review and input are needed from the public on their preferences.  A .pdf file with information on the choices can be made available – contact bfdayplayground@gmail.com to learn more, and respond to the attached survey.

Informal surveys continue of students, staff, families and volunteers at the school, as well as from park and playground users.  Community input is an important criteria of the selection process, which also includes consideration of safety, cost, availability and delivery, according to Seattle School District policy.

Phase one construction will go out for bid for a general contractor by the end of June, hopefully.  The project must first complete a Landmark Review process scheduled for mid-June.

Bidding and contracting can take four weeks, so construction start is tentatively set for the end of July.  About 7 weeks of site work are expected, as well as a community install for the play equipment – perhaps one a weekend in September.  When a solid date is set, expect to see more notifications and requests for assistance.
