This summer, enjoy ‘Poisoning Pigeons In The Park,’ at West Of Lenin. This revue of the ‘relevant, radical and risqué songs of Tom Lehrer,’ will be performed in Fremont July 25th – August 11th. By Arne Zaslove and Musical Director John Engerman, after a successful run at The Market Theatre, they and the small cast of ‘Poisoning Pigeons’ will share twenty of Lehrer’s most popular songs.
Many may not be familiar with the name Tom Lehrer, or his brilliance as a songwriter/storyteller, but his songs will be familiar – as will his themes once aimed at the Cold War and the Civil Rights Movement but often easily translated to today’s political and cultural climate. Once a cult figure, Lehrer worked as a mathematician at Harvard and M.I.T. who could also sit down at a piano and spin out catchy, hilarious, and sharply satirical songs.
Tickets to shows at West Of Lenin, held Thursdays – Saturdays, with two special Sunday matinees in August, can be purchased through Brown Paper Tickets. For fans of Lehrer, or those looking for something to sing at the next protest or party, get your tickets to the tiny theater while you can.
