This weekend, July 20th & 21st, enjoy the outdoors and Fremont at its funkiest with the (free) Music In the Sculpture Garden concert series, and the (almost free) Fremont Outdoor Movie!
On Saturday evening, spread out your urban campsite (blanket, folding chairs, cooler, etc.) for an evening under the stars with ‘Superbad.’ This 2007 comedy starting Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, and produced by Judd Apatow, was written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who began working on the script when they were both thirteen years old.
The ‘doors’ of the Fremont Outdoor Movies, located on the U-Park lot at Phinney Ave N & N 35th St, open at 7:30p – the movie starts at dusk! Food trucks – one sweet and one savory – will be parked nearby for your dining pleasure, and this is one cinema that welcomes you to bring in your take out. Also, enjoy the photo booth – with the theme of ‘Hawaii Fake I.D.’ Purchase advance tickets, for $5, on-line for priority seating through Eventbrite.
The next day, on July 21st at 2p, kick-back and recover in the relaxed environment of the covered Sculpture Garden at History House. The free, family-friendly acoustic concert series continues with featured performers The Hayburners and ThorNton Creek.
Singer-songwriters The Hayburners will take the audience on a bicycle-built-for-two, metaphorically, of nationally award-winning music, strong vocal harmonies and wedded bliss. Jennifer Spector and David Tieman will perform an all-original mix of folk music, rootsy Americana, and jazz-inspired tunes.
Performing music ‘for people with ears,’ ThorNton Creek offers acoustic roots – more than just electric front-porch swing. This local band has pleased tough audiences around the area for years, and now will bring their popular sound to Fremont – for free.
Enjoy both opportunities to get out and experience live, and almost live, entertainment at the Center of the Universe.
