On Saturday, August 24th, the Seattle Marathon Association (SMA) will hold a special 10K race through Fremont and Wallingford. The ADA-compliant course will take an estimated 1,200 – 1,700 participants through our community on Saturday morning, affecting on-street parking, Burke-Gilman Trail and some sidewalk access. The Kids’ Fun Run will take place, however, entirely on the grounds of Gas Works Park, where the SMA 10K begins and ends.
This is the third annual Seattle Marathon 10K (the actual Seattle Marathon takes place December 1, 2013,) but the first time the race will be run through Fremont. Race organizers have stated in notices, “we feel that this new location will better showcase the beauty that Seattle has to offer.”
The start time for the 10K race is 8a, with designated streets closed 30 minutes prior to the expected arrival of participants. The course is scheduled:
- 8a – 8:15a – N Northlake Way (eastbound lanes) from Gas Works to 34th & Stone Way
- 8:10a – 9:10a – 8th Ave NW (northbound) from NW 43rd St to NW Bright St, and Leary Way (southbound) from NW Bright St to 3rd Ave NW
- 8:15a -9:40a – 34th St (eastbound) from Stone Way to N Pacific St
