On Saturday, September 21st, the Fremont Arts Council will hold its annual Luminata Lantern Procession at Green Lake, celebrating the Fall Equinox, community and, as with every FAC event, art.
Between now and then, the FAC has invited everyone interested – of every age and skill – to come by The Powerhouse (3940 Fremont Ave N) and make a lantern for Luminata. Make a lantern to carry, or one for the FAC to sell to fund this beautiful lighting of the way into autumn.
Workshops will take place this weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, Sep 14th & 15th, from Noon – 6p. They will also be open Monday – Thursday this week (Sep 16th – 19th) from 6p – 9p. Blank kits will be available to decorate, with a wide-variety of materials and assistance also in stock. Kits include the lantern, an LED light and a bamboo stick to hang it, and the kits come in different sizes – 10” costs $10, 12” costs $15, and 16” costs $20.
Those who decorate five kits at the workshop for the FAC lantern sale will get a kit for themselves for free.
Also, for those who want to make Luminata extra special, volunteers are needed the day of – on Saturday, Sep 21st, for a variety of shifts. A volunteer meeting will take place on Tuesday, Sep 17th, at 7p – please consider joining the crew. Getting involved is a great way to meet new people and contribute to a collective creative vision.
Luminata takes place on Saturday, September 21st, with the gathering of the lights starting at 7p at the Aqua Barn (Small Crafts Center) at Green Lake. The gathering will then process in the direction of the ‘secret banquet’ where cookies & cider will be for sale for $1 each. Please come illuminate the turning of the season with warmth and glow!
