On December 25th, Christmas Day, there will be no trash collections done in Seattle, and the Seattle Public Utility recycling and disposal stations will be closed.  The same is true for January 1st, 2014.  As a result both weeks, collections normally scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will all be done one day later.  Please be sure to have your containers out by 7a to ensure collection on Thursday, Friday or Saturday.

In addition, Seattle residents with curbside food and yard waste collection can put their Christmas trees and greens out with their regular collection, at no extra charge, from December 26th – January 12th.  Trees must be cut into sections six feet long or shorter, with branches trimmed to less than four feet.  Sections can be bundled with string or non-plastic twine.

Trees flocked and/or with tinsel or ornaments will be collected as extra garbage, at an extra cost of $8.60 per unit.  Plastic trees are, of course, not compostable and will also be considered extra solid waste.  Multi-family buildings can put one natural tree out next to each food and yard waste cart each collection day at no extra charge until January 12th.  Christmas trees and greens, cut into eight feet or less lenths, can also be dropped-off, for free, at either the North or South Transfer Stations, at a limit of three trees per vehicle.
