For one-night-only, Saturday, February 21st, at 7:30p, bass player Bakithi Kumalo will descend the steps into Dusty Strings to share his musical story as part of the new Artist’s Perspective Series. This exclusive presentation will appeal to bass players, long-time fans, and all lovers of music.
Bakithi Kumalo started his professional career at age ten, and has since toured and recorded with Gloria Estefan, Herbie Hancock, Chaka Khan, Harry Belefonte, Cyndi Lauper, Laurie Anderson, and Jon Secada. Most notably, Kumalo has worked closely with Paul Simon on the album ‘Graceland,’ and introduced him to the eloquent sound of the fretless bass which added a unique layer to the Grammy Award winning album. Kumalo will be in Seattle as part of the tour of Paul Simon and Sting, performing on February 19th at Key Arena.
While most of his recordings focus on his electric, fretless bass playing, Bakithi Kumalo is also an accomplished upright bass player, U-bassist, percussionist, keyboardist, and saxophonist.
Join him at the Artist’s Perspective on February 21st, for an on-stage conversation, and off-the-cuff performance, as Kumalo shares his views, ideas, and values of a life in music in the world today. Tickets to this installment of the Artist’s Perspective series will cost $40 per person, and can be purchased at Dusty Strings in the retail shop.
