Take Time for Another Installment of ‘The Assembly Line’

On Monday, October 6th, at 7p in the DownStage Theatre, the Play Factory Writers’ Group will do another installment of its bi-monthly play readings.  Called ‘The Assembly Line’, this writers’ group has been established as a way to develop new theater works, inviting in the general public to reading of works under review.  On Monday evening, attendees can hear three short works by John Ruoff.

The three works focus on two people in transition:

Chocolate Hearts – An uptight dentist, visiting his wife’s gravestone on Valentine’s Day, meets an eccentric woman whose three alcoholic archaeologist husbands are buried next door.

The Garden of Paradox – A wise guy from Miami Beach arrives at a garden he considers to be his destiny, and encounters an Irish Sea Captain who has given up the nautical life for an unsuccessful attempt to grow potatoes – on land the wise guy has won in a card game.  A beautiful sea goddess arrives to reveal the mystery of this destiny.

Confessions of the Cocoa Luna – A former Olympic skater hiding out in the jungles of Costa Rica helps to celebrate the birthday of a middle-aged Broadway composer.  Through their mutual compassion and platonic love for each other, the two reveal their inner demons.

Through this live reading, and feedback from audience and cast, The Assembly Line can help shape, sharpen and reinforce these works to make them ready for production.  Come be a part of this making of art, and help the non-profit Play Factory by paying-what-you-can for this performance/critique.
