On Sunday, February 8th at 3p, Orchestra Seattle/Seattle Chamber Singers (OSSCS) will present ‘Turning Points’, continuing its musical exploration of moments in time by touching on pivotal points that changed composers, musicians and their work. As a special treat, violinist Marie Leou will perform the first movement of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, all in the First Free Methodist Church near the Seattle Pacific University campus.
In its 45th season, the OSSCS will present the Slavonic Dances which launched the career of Dvorak, the piece Shostakovich worked on for three straight days after observing the devastation of the firebombing in Dresden, ‘Fratres’ by Arvo Part who lost his will to compose after his music was banned by Stalin’s totalitarian regime, and Mozart’s Symphony #29, composed when the prodigy was age 18 years old.
With Clinton Smith conducting, this concert promises quality music and singing. Tickets can be purchased, in advance, through Brown Paper Tickets.
