On Wednesday, May 18th, between 5p – 10p, the Red Door will host ‘Pints for Pipes,’ an effort to raise money for instruments and equipment to outfit a Seattle Police Pipes & Drum Band.

The tradition of a bagpipe & drum ensemble is carried in the fire departments of Snohomish, Pierce County, Seattle and the Eastside – and representatives are expected at the fundraiser on May 18th.

According to Pete Hanning, co-owner of the Red Door, the inspiration to create a Seattle Police Department (SPD) pipes & drum came during a performance last year by the Seattle Firefighters Pipes & Drum, at a funeral of a fallen SPD officer.  The desire to be able to honor one of their own with this tradition sparked a call for other volunteers, and netted 72 enthusiastic responses.

Now they ask for help outfitting the new band with instruments and equipment.  So come out, raise a pint, donate a buck and, perhaps, bid on silent auction items.

If nothing else, stop by the Red Door on May 18th for the sure-to-be rousing music played by the visiting pipes & drum musicians!
