Volunteers Needed For Annual Count Of Washington Cyclists & Pedestrians

This fall, the State of Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will do its eighth annual three-day survey of bicyclists and pedestrians. Volunteers counted over 72,000 cyclists and walkers in 2014, and about 400 volunteers will be needed again this year – registration starts now for those able to help.

“Counting bicyclists and pedestrians helps us more accurately measure demand, gauge the results of our investments and plan for future improvement projects,” said Secretary of Transportation Lynn Peterson. “We couldn’t document the number of people walking and biking without the help of many volunteers from across the state.”

Cascade Bicycle Club, along with FeetFirst and the Bicycle Alliance of Washington, will be enlisting volunteers to conduct counts along bike lanes, walking paths, and sidewalks. From Tuesday, Sep 29^th through Thursday, Oct. 1^st, counts will be taken in at least 38 cities across the state.
