This week, visible progress was made to future development of the former Fremont Electric site, at 744 N 34th St (at the corner of Troll Ave & Patches Place.)

On Monday, January 18th, the final two pieces from the former Sculpture Garden at History House were relocated.  Original gears from the Fremont Bridge, removed when the bascule mechanisms were replaced with electronics, have been on display at our local museum.  Now, the largest of the two gears has been placed at the corner of N 35th St & Phinney Ave N, outside the Fremont Outdoor Cinema / U-Park Systems lot.

On Tuesday, January 19th, demolition began on the four buildings that once housed Fremont Electric.  The first buildings to go were those that formerly housed History House and Milstead & Co coffeeshop.  Both currently have temporary digs, with Milstead open to the public (along with Café Turko) one block east at 900 N 34th St.

Demolition is the first step in the ultimate construction of a five-story office/retail building on the site.  Read more about the development planned for 744 N 34th St in a Fremocentrist.com news item from July 2015.  Also, stay tuned for more developments and news on this project coming soon on Fremocentrist.com.
