On Monday, April 11th, at 6:30p, the Fremont Branch Library will host its quarterly, and free, ‘Evening of Poetry’, co-produced with Floating Bridge Press, it features three poets reading their original works.
The fresh voices of poets Ann Spiers, Lillo Way and Kathleen Byrd will present their poems, along with sharing their opinions and answers to questions from the audience, after the readings.
Spiers, the inaugural Poet Laureate of Vashon Island, leads workshops in developing poem cycles and the art of chapbooks. Her poetry has appeared in several anthologies and her lyrics are part of special collections at Stanford University, the University of Washington, and the British Library.
Way has poems that appeared in Poet Lore, Tampa Review, New Orleans Review, and the FutureCycle Press anthology ‘Good Works’. She has also had a finalist manuscript and a chapbook in competition and prize contests.
Byrd, a poet from Olympia, teaches writing and humanities courses at South Puget Sound Community College, although she is currently on sabbatical. Her poems have been published in Godiva Speaks, Unspoken Northwest, Crosscurrents, and Pontoon.
