Don’t Just Sit There – Parade!

You can go sit and watch the Solstice Parade, at Noon, on Saturday, June 18th – or you can participate!  Why be passive when you can be an active part of this incredible experience?

Several opportunities remain to get involve, and some are so easy that all you have to be able to do is walk!  The Solstice Parade needs monitors – people posted inside the parade route that can issue firm but friendly guidance to parade spectators and participants.  This IS the best seat in the house!  Plus, it takes no craft-skills…sign up at volunteer@fremontartscouncil.org

Other volunteer positions still available can be seen at http://fremontartscouncil.org/volunteer/solstice

Also, check out –

  • Giant Puppets Save The World:  Needs people who can arrive before the parade (about 10a) for a brief practice – and wear white.  Come be a giant flying bird, the tree of life, Dogody, a huge snake, a cloud or a videographer.  Find out more at their website or on their CraigsList ad!
  • Ice Queens Ukon Jhula:  Preview their incredible creations, made from coffee filters, on Thursday, June 16th starting at 7p, at the old Portage Bay Goods space (706 N 34th St)  Then, consider helping with a support float for these gorgeous creatures.
  • Hobnobs Are Coming:  Put together a hobnob (a costume resembling a horse or another creature with fake legs so the wearer looks like they are ‘riding’) using detailed instructions on their blog, and then come to the parade at 10a to ride with the HobNobs!  Get all the details on the blog.

Imagine being a part of it all!  Questions?  Contact volunteers@fremontartscouncil.org if you need more details on how to get involved.

It may be easier to sit and watch, but it’s much more fun to get in there!
