Five years ago, Seattle Police Department Officers Jeremy Wade and Ryan Gallagher saw a need – children sleeping on floors and on cushions – and did something about it. They purchased mattresses and bed frames to give the children living in poverty a place to rest their heads.
With help from private donors, in partnership with Seattle Police Foundation, the Beds for Kids program has grown and to date Seattle Police officers have given out more than 1,200 beds for kids in need.
This year the Beds for Kids program is being led by Acting Sergeant Martin Welte, and the team has set a goal to provide 200 beds to children living in rough conditions and in homes for the first time in their young lives.
To do this, Beds for Kids needs to raise $75,000 by October 25th. Please visit the Seattle Police Foundation donation page for Beds for Kids to give any amount to help (click here for the link,) and share this great cause with anyone you think might want to help children get a better night’s sleep!
