The Hope Float Fundraiser is on-line now, to raise money for artists in our area hard hit by the closure of venues and suspension of gatherings. Glass Eye Studio, established in 1978 and located in West Fremont, has launched sale of a limited-edition hand-blown glass float, with 100% of proceeds raised supporting Artist Trust’s new emergency grant program.
Some local artists are finding it hard to pay their rent or cover basic financial needs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many others are feeling the stress of financial uncertainty due to sudden layoffs, and the expenses of creating art that now might not get seen or sold.
The Glass Eye team have donated their time and resources to create 1,000 handblown glass floats, featuring a navigational star on the bottom foot. These pieces being sold, on-line, for $100, will give 100% of proceeds to a grant program managed and dispersed by the 501(c)3 non-profit Artist Trust. “Our Hope Float is one small way of helping those in financial distress and the intent is that other local business owners and local consumers will use their resources and ingenuity to keep hope and optimism afloat as we go through these unsettling times,” said Glass Eye Studio owner Billy O’Neill.
