The Wallingford Community Senior Center (which serves Fremont seniors as well,) remains closed at this time. However, the staff is still working to keep our elders from feeling the harmful effects of isolation that could descend as they shelter at home for their safety.
Right now, WCSC staff are available to help and support seniors in seclusion. Staying safe is so important for our seniors, and WCSC staff hope they will ask for help rather than put themselves at risk. Contact WCSC for help with:
- Connections to essential services (grocery shopping, prescriptions, etc.)
- Connection to a phone buddy
- Check-in phone calls
- Social worker phone consultations on resources, or just to talk
- On-line classes and support groups
- Technology support via phone calls
- Fabric face masks, available by delivery
Get help by e-mail at register@wallingfordseniors.org or at 206-461-7825, and leave a message. Staff is working remotely, but they are regularly checking the voice mail!
On Tuesdays & Thursdays, Rich and Jen are available to do yoga with WCSC Seniors! These two yoga teachers extraordinaire will be on Zoom to lead yoga for every body. On Tuesdays, join Rich from 9a – 10:30a, and on Thursdays, join Jen from Noon – 1:15p, for a healthy, relaxing interlude. The classes are free (although a donation to WCSC and/or the teachers would be appreciated,) and pre-registration can be done by e-mail to register@wallingfordseniors.org to get the Zoom meeting information.
On Fridays, from 11a – Noon, on Zoom, WCSC Executive Director Ashley Larson, who studied plant biology in college, is discussing our houseplants and gardens. Foliage Fridays is a casual talk about plants, asking questions about houseplants and sharing propagation adventures, all done on Zoom so participants can show-and-tell if they like. Register at register@wallingfordseniors.org to get all the Zoom meeting information.
Every week day, the WCSC staff operate a Party Line phone tree that seniors can call just to chat and be social. They’ve begun introducing a loose theme/conversation starter for each day – and they are taking ideas for topics. On Thursday, May 7th the topic is favorite local restaurants, and Friday, May 8th, share three words that describe you. The Party Line is at Noon, at 206/350-6745, and all seniors are welcome to join (and remember, a code of conduct is enforce.)
The Wallingford Community Senior Center wants to sustain our seniors even while the Center must remain closed for the safety and health of everyone. Find out more about the WCSC on the website (click here) – and, if you are able, consider giving a donation to assist our seniors, now and in the future!
